An abundance of fresh faces are making their way to the University of Miami this week as students and their families attend the new student orientation, also known as ’Cane Kickoff.  

 Hosted by the Department of Orientation and Commuter Student Involvement with participation from partners across the campus, the program takes place from Monday, Aug. 14, through Sunday, Aug. 20, and will support 2,700 students as they transition into the U.

There are not too many places where you can swim with the dolphins one day, participate in shark research the next, then top off your week with a trip to Miami Beach’s fashionable Lincoln Road. Or, if you are more of a sports fan, take in a Marlins game. 

All this happens in addition to taking classes with University professors and participating in college prep courses, while living at the University of Miami’s Coral Gables Campus.

A visual essay to show the passion, determination, and teamwork of the University of Miami women’s rowing team as these student-athletes from around the world conquer the waterways with every stroke.

From 5 a.m. wake-up calls to 14 miles of rowing before the start of classes, these women put in the hard work needed to compete in a Division 1 sport against some of the top rowing powerhouses in the United States. And they do this all with Miami Beach and South Florida as an amazing backdrop.
