On March 7, 2024, UIC Student Affairs provided UIC students with the opportunity to take a free road trip to support the Flames Men’s basketball team for the Arch Madness Missouri Valley Conference tournament in St. Louis, Missouri. UIC students and staff cheered on the men's team as they battled the Southern Salukis and Bradley Braves over the course of two nights. Hear from UIC athletes, coaches, students and staff about their journey and take a trip through historic St. Louis.

Between the beats of a metronome, the stops-and-starts of do-overs and three-minute water breaks, a deep bond forms at the Laker Marching Band camp over early mornings, hard work, discipline and even a few tears. 

The seven-day camp that starts each year before other students are on campus prepares band members for the first football game of the season.

For 21 Grand Valley students, the start of summer 2023 meant learning about dinosaur footprints in the Front Range, watching the sunset at Delicate Arch, studying the impact of volcanic eruptions near Navajo Lake and more.

After a 31-year absence, varsity wrestling has returned to Grand Valley, with an opening home match November 1 against Cornerstone University. 

 

“Grand Valley State is so important to me, even more important now that they have brought back the sport of wrestling,” Gable said. “The world needs more discipline, and wrestling acts as that form of discipline. It also brings great people together, and that’s what has happened here today.”
