Each year, the Bates women’s varsity teams open their arms to local youngsters to celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day.

NGWSD recognizes student-athletes, champions, coaches, administrators, lawmakers, and others who are committed to providing equitable access to sports for all girls and women. In various clinics inside Gray Athletic Building on Feb. 11, the youngsters got a chance to learn a little something about many of the 16 women's varsity sports that Bates offers, including rowing.

Each spring, seniors take to public spots on campus, whether Coram Library porch of the walkway in front of Hathorn, to engage in what has become a big ritual of the Bates spring: placing a print copy of their completed thesis into a rigid black binder, as friends and faculty and staff gather around in raucous support. 

This immersive picture story documents the experiences of 10 individual seniors as they celebrate the academic culmination of their undergraduate experiences.

A University of Miami team led by Doctor Saxena and the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine’s Global Institute for Community Health and Development, traveled to MARSH HARBOUR, Great Abaco Island, Bahamas to help with the metal recovery of students that survived Hurricane Dorian, a 185 mile-per-hour storm that ripped through the northern Bahamas in September 2019 with high winds, rain, and a 20-foot storm surge.

'Tis the season -- foaling season, that is -- at the University of Missouri's Equine Teaching Facility.

The facility, part of the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources Division of Animal Sciences, is known for its long standing tradition of breeding and raising quality quarter horses. It's also a prime example of the student-operated, hands-on experiences you can find at Mizzou.

Undergraduate students in Animal Science's Equine Breeding Management class focus on practical applications of reproductive management techniques and breeding in the horse.
