Through immersive photography and storytelling, the project explores the landscapes, cultures, and communities that define America’s heartland while capturing the creation of a documentary series centered on a new backroads cycling route stretching through the region.

Heating Up follows Texas Tech alumnus Michael Flores as he transforms his family’s longtime bakery business into the acclaimed Jiménez y Friends Barbecue y Taqueria. The photo story highlights his passion for barbecue, entrepreneurial journey, and commitment to family, showing how lessons learned at Texas Tech helped him build one of Texas’ recognized destinations for both barbecue and tacos while continuing a legacy of serving the Lubbock community.

Designing the Next Chapter is a photo story about two Texas Tech interior design alumni, Michelle Pearson and John Botello, who have come full circle from classmates to mentors. Through a student design trip to Washington, D.C., they help current students experience architecture, history, and design firsthand, continuing a tradition of experiential learning that shaped their own careers and demonstrating how mentorship and travel can inspire the next generation of designers.
