After the realization that students were not attending career center events because they could not find a local barber or salon that specialized in diverse hair, a pilot program was started that provided students with access to free hair cuts/styling. The students attend career center events and in exchange, they can get their hair done whenever needed.

Students from Grand Valley’s New Music Ensemble and the Dance Company greeted visitors to Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park on February 25 with performances inspired by the sculpture “Utopia” by artist Jaume Plensa. The sculpture is in the Garden Pavilion in the Welcome Center.
The atmosphere looks and sounds very much like a home game for the Laker basketball teams, but instead it’s a pair of teams from local middle charter schools — GVSU-authorized Vanguard Charter Academy and Walker Charter Academy — meeting on the Fieldhouse’s court for their league contest.
The game is a collaboration between the sport management program and the Charter Schools Office, said Michael Cousins, assistant director of communications and external affairs for CSO.
