On January 24, 2022, Computer Science student Aniketh Vyas and his friends went out to celebrate his birthday. They were riding in a Lyft when the driver fell asleep on the highway and crashed into the guardrail. Miraculously, no one was injured. But as they talked with police on the side of the road, they were struck by a speeding vehicle at 97mph. Vyas suffered critical injuries that resulted in the amputation of his left leg. Recently he received his prosthetic and on May 19, 2023 he walked across the stage to receive his diploma.

Jennifer Cunha, a parrot behaviorist researcher, taught parrots to video-call one another, leading to friendship. Cunha helped unlock new discoveries about what parrots -- among the most intelligent animals in captivity -- are capable of. Her 11-year-old Goffin's cockatoo can read basic words, draw 14 letters on a touchpad with her beak, and communicate a wide array of complex feelings and requests on her tablet.

An engineering capstone team traveled to Ecuador to work with a local prosthetics shop to gift and train on their low cost creation to be able to create and pour their own prosthetic foot molds and liners in house, to cut back on extreme cost and provide a more efficient service to the people in Ibarra, Ecuador. Some of the students visited the home of one of the recipients of the students foot molds and prosthetic liners to meet with him and his family.
