Portraits
Posed portraits of individuals or groups, in the studio, on your campus, or elsewhere in a university or college-related situation. The subject must be aware that they are being photographed. Other more candid “portraits” belong in the NEWS & COLLEGE LIFE category. Basic retouching/editing is permitted.

As we all know there is never a shortage of unique lighting situations that are thrown at us. This shot came out of a live drawing class shoot. It was a challenge as the main lighting in the room was the light on the subject the students were drawing. So the ambient light left me with great contrast but the only time the students faces were lit was when they would look up at the live art model.
Quadry Chance, a University of Florida Department of Astronomy graduate student, gazes up at the stars on a clear night at Rosemary Hill Observatory. Chance was named one of 2020's Pre-Doctoral Fellows at the Center for Computational Astrophysics making him the first at UF. This year, two more students joined him in earning this honor and I photographed them all to celebrate the achievement.

Cadet Gursharan Virk, a sophomore information assurance major at Detachment 255 at the university, is now allowed to wear Sikhism ceremonial accessories and abide by the religion’s grooming standards, which includes wearing a turban, necklace and bracelet, while having an uncut beard, in observation of his faith.

Sayed Ali Reza Ahmadi of Afghanistan, a doctoral student in the English Department at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, sits for a portrait on August 16, 2022. Ali was photographed for a university-published article, “Home Is Where the Mind Is: Supporting Students from Countries in Crisis”.
