The Urban Rivers organization in the Chicago area has created numerous "Floating Gardens" on riverways surrounding the city. Beyond habitat restoration, these floating gardens also serve to purify the water. Photo taken during a visit to these gardens with some of our university's professors who study the impact these floating gardens have on the river systems. Some professors at our university are involved with a "floating gardens" project in Chicago, which aims to clean rivers and restore natural habitats. During a visit to one of the floating garden bed, deemed the "wild mile," I noticed an abundance of wildlife taking advantage of the restored habitat, including birds. I've submitted this image to General Features since it was taken at a location far from our university's campus.
