This is the first news story I was able to both write and photograph in my department. It was a really special story to me, because the subject of the story was one of my best friends growing up, and the setting takes place at the same grade school we both attended. Blake Bloodworth, who is an artist that is now based in Houston, was invited back to his grade school to talk to students and paint a mural in the school gym. Bloodworth was inspired by another artist who did the same thing when Bloodworth was a student, and that artist and Bloodworth still hold a relationship to this day.
HOMECOMING 2024
A week of celebration, fun, and school spirit.
The Frost Band of the Hour, the beloved marching band for the iconic Miami Hurricanes is a storied University of Miami institution almost as old as the University itself. This year, the band embarked on a new era with two dynamic leaders: director of athletic bands Craig McKenzie and associate director of bands Sheldon McLean, both doctoral graduates of the Frost School of Music.
Just over an hour north of the University, graduate student Aidan O'Brien and a few other students from associate professor Christopher Searcy's Conservation Ecology Lab are studying how different water levels in the Florida Everglades can affect the reptile and amphibian communities living there.
