Anna Gurley just finished her last semester at Western Carolina University. Some of her earliest memories were in her mother's classroom. Now, as she goes out into the world to blaze her own trail, she'll have a classroom of her own where her passion for science will impact future students.

Our content manager and I had full creative control of this video -- we wrote the script together and I storyboarded visuals for 15, 30 and 60-second versions of an updated About Us video. I was able to efficiently make these three videos by using a lot of existing footage from our video archive. The 60-second version, presented here, is my favorite of the three and was the first new About Us video for the university in 6 years and one that is more in line with our Strategic Plan 2027.

The ways we feel excluded from the dominant culture can have us navigate certain margins, whether visible or invisible. Navigating Spaces is a video series that allows students and alumni to talk openly and candidly about those margins and how they found a sense of belonging as they navigated their Lafayette experience.

2023 marks the 30th year of a student trip that  professor Rob Heller in the School of Journalism & Media at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville created. He takes his advanced photojournalism students to LaFollette, Tennessee to document life in a small town. Over the years he has developed an impressive archive of a changing small town and its residents, and has impacted the lives of hundreds of students.
