A faculty member in the University College, Luke Faust makes sure students have the support they need to succeed. Many come to college with baggage or barriers. He knows how to help, because he was once there, struggling in school, in need of a guide. Now, he shows students the world has something better for them. Recent graduate Imani Jefferson attests to the life-changing experience she had at IUP with Faust’s support.

Hayden Swank is putting his dual-major of Advertising and Marketing to use while fighting an uphill battle to claim his spot in the future of racing. While it is tough for Swank to compete against teams with seemingly endless financial backing, this isn’t the only hurdle that Swank has had to overcome in his racing career. As society’s focus on a global pandemic steadily receded throughout 2021, Ball State’s Marketing and Communications Division purposefully reoriented its efforts to focus on the attributes at our University that make it distinctive. After a variety of conversations on concept, storyboarding, rigorous production planning, and months of shooting and editing work, the video “Ball State University Character and Community” debuted during the opening week of the 2022-23 academic year.

Lafayette College welcomed the Class of 2026, which will celebrate the bicentennial of the college's founding during their senior year. Over the course of the weekend, the freshman class moved into their dorms, said farewell to their families, participated in orientation activities, and attended their convocation with President Nicole Farmer Hurd and other members of the Lafayette faculty and staff.

Each summer, Lafayette College students have the opportunity to participate in academically meaningful experiences outside the classroom. Students selected as EXCEL Scholars engage in collaborative research projects with Lafayette faculty, enhancing their academic skills as well as developing other skills that will be useful in post-graduate education and careers. This summer, Jordan Lam '23 researched Neophobia in Birds with associate professor of biology Mike Butler.

Over his 40-year career at Lafayette, Professor of Economics Rex Ahene has been part of the College’s evolution into a more diverse and inclusive space. At the time he joined the College’s faculty, he was the only person of color teaching on campus. The founding director of the Africana Studies program at Lafayette, Ahene was instrumental in the creation of the College’s dean for multicultural affairs and diversity issues position. Here, with President Nicole Farmer Hurd, Ahene reflects on his career as a scholar and mentor.
