This image perfectly defines a game of inches. Just a few inches higher and the ball wouldn’t be inside the pylon; a few inches lower and his arm would’ve touched out of bounds before he scored, and the defender was just inches away from making the play. Football moves too quickly to notice these fine margins, but photography like this allows us to truly appreciate how a matter of inches can make all the difference.
