A little Samoan girl silently observes other children going to get tested for Rheumatic Heart disease by the visiting university students.

A class leader leads the primary school students in chants and song  while the university students were there testing the children for Rheumatic Heart Disease in Savai'i, Samoa.

Current and former patients of Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital walked the runway alongside professional models at the annual Friends & Fashion event at Music City Center April 9.  “The event is so impactful as it showcases the hospital’s mission in such an amazing way,” said Carissa Pereira, Friends & Fashion 2018 co-chair. “Three of my five children have been hospital patients and understand the purpose of walking the runway to help raise funds for the place that has impacted their lives.”

A group of students, teachers, and doctors traveled to Samoa to test the school children for Rheumatic Heart Disease and educate them and parents, how to prevent it through puppet shows and songs. This is a little Samoan girl looking through the window smiling during one of the songs.

They also did genetic testing to see correlations between strep in the throat and leg sores if they also contribute to Rheumatic Heart Disease.
