Professor of Physics Liping Gan (CENTER) has been involving UNCW students in an international collaboration at Jefferson Lab in Newport News, Virginia, since soon after she was hired at the university in 2001. Each year at least two or three students join Gan at the lab over the summer where she is working with the JLab Eta Factory (JEF) experiment, which aims to study rare decays of eta mesons that could potentially provide insights into the nature of dark matter.   ***Portrait of Gan and her most recent student interns is a composite image.

A member of university's Air Force ROTC program uses the flight simulation training equipment. Cadets can get hands-on with ultra-realistic flight panels, controls and immersive VR goggles.
