Posed portraits of individuals or groups, in the studio, on your campus, or elsewhere in a university or college-related situation. The subject must be aware that they are being photographed. Other more candid “portraits” belong in the NEWS & COLLEGE LIFE category. Basic retouching/editing is permitted.

Edith Valle stands next to a portrait she painted of a friend at her home in Pflugerville, Texas. Valle is a Graphic Design and CAMP alumna who creates illustrations, murals and branding for clients including Paprika ATX taco truck and HomeAway (now VRBO). Her specialty, however, is using her design skills for social-impact causes, including Deeds Not Words, the program founded by Fort Worth politician Wendy Davis to train young women in advocacy. As the art director for Deeds Not Words, Valle launched the organization’s Artist in Residency program and The Galvanizer, a zine by young people for young people. She also is the art director for Movement Mujeres, which prepares women of color for leadership positions in government and nonprofits in Texas

The College of Health Sciences asked me to shoot Dr. Thompson during one of his PhD classes for marketing. Usually, these shoots are in very drab classrooms and this one was no different. However, on one wall was frosted panes that framed Dr. Thompson quite well. Felt good to leave an otherwise basic shoot with a bit of flair.
