Ashleigh Lucas plays chess against the University of Florida Libraries SASCwatch. Lucas, a former intern of the Libraries communications team, spent her junior summer interviewing Special & Area Studies Collections (SASC) curators dressed as a sasquatch. These videos were part of an initiative to make special collections more approachable. This portrait is included in the Smathers Libraries centennial project, “Humans of the Libraries,” to recognize our graduating class of 2025 library student employees.

The exhibit, “We Are the Girls of Old Florida,” follows the stories of the first women at UF and highlights the struggles they overcame entering a male-only campus.
