In August 2021, Zahra Fayeq was one of 148 Afghan nationals whose plans to continue studying at the Asian University for Women in Chittagong, Bangladesh, were interrupted by the Taliban’s rise to power. Knowing that Taliban leaders had historically barred women from pursuing an education, AUW arranged for Fayeq and her classmates to leave Kabul on a cargo plane bound for Fort McCoy in Wisconsin. Following a speedy application and admission process, Fayeq and 13 other women arrived at Brown in October 2021, where they will enroll in and audit select courses in Spring 2022

Fandom and fashion are colliding in the designs of Adria Sanchez-Chaidez. A University of Nebraska–Lincoln graduate student in textiles, merchandising and fashion design, Sanchez-Chaidez is passionate about paying homage to her favorite movie, TV and comic book characters in her clothing designs. Her designs, from left, pay homage to Star Trek, Jurassic Park, Wonder Woman and the Star Wars saga.
