The BYU Staff will be teaching a basic Video Production Class on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday morning in the hospitality room at the Cotton Tree Inn. One of the biggest requests we got from UPAA members was to have a beginner class on how to use HDDSLR cameras to create simple video pieces for their colleges and universities. Because this isn't something that everybody is interested in, we have made it an optional class that will be presented during breakfast. The best part is that our breakfast will be served in the hospitality room, so you can grab some eggs and bacon and then pull up a chair for the class which will be held on the far side of the large conference room.
On Tuesday we will go over the basic gear needed for shooting an interview, and the optimal settings for your camera. Then we will shoot a live interview in the classroom with dual audio capture. On Wednesday we will go over different way to shoot B-roll and then we will shoot some footage to go along with our interview. Finally on Thursday, we will sit down with Final Cut Pro and go over the basics of editing HDDSLR footage. The plan is to edit together the footage shot on Tuesday and Wednesday into a final piece that we will export and upload to Youtube.

Feel free to bring your camera so that you can shoot some video along with us. We will also hand out notes each day so that you don't have to get pancake syrup on your notepad. If you have specific questions or topics that you would like us to cover during the class, please send me an email at: jaren@byu.edu
Here are a few examples of the kinds of pieces that we will be discussing:
